The chronicles of Ystergern

 Last weeks we've been writing different stories in class, we were divided in different groups and we completed the other group's stories. So all the stories have been made with the support of other people. This story has been made mostly by Iban Juarros and me, but as I've said other people have taken part on this story.

THE CHRONICLES OF YSTERGERN

Once upon a time there was a brave hero, called Ulthane, knight of the lightness. The lightness was the defeater of the darkness. Two great sides with different targets fighting since eons on the bowels of the enormous world of Ystergern. The lightness only wanted the difficult object of live in peace but the darkness wasn’t very sure of what the lightness wanted.

There was a legend which said that the forest was bewitched, it was surrounded of darkness. The darkness came from the trees, though it looked like a lie instead of having green leafs and a brown trunk they had it spiral trunks and black leafs. When one leaf fell down, a huge earthquake was happening in the kingdom of Ystergern. In the day that happened the never seen quake, Ulthane  got worried. He took the sword that was hanging below the door, rode in the horse and he entered in the forest.

In the forest found a monster. He decided to spoke  with him:

- Hello, who are you? - said the monster. - I’m the king of this forest.

- Sorry, I have entered here because a quake. - Said the Ulthane.

At that moment, the monster invited him to his house. When they arrived home, Ulthane saw a chocolate home with some mysterious animals. When he entered to the house, the monster invited him to ate something. When he finished, the monster offered Ulthane a bed.

Ulthane accepted the offer and fell asleep. Some hours later the monster approached to Ulthane and tried to kill him with an axe, but Ulthane stopped the attack with his sword. They started fighting. The monster made slow but dangerous attacks, whereas Ulthane made fast and contundent. Ulthane cuted the monster’s leg and this brought the monster to his knees.

-Who are you?- asked Ulthane

-I’m a simple server of the darkness, you can’t defeat it.

-I can, where can I find the darkness?

-You can find it in the old temple, but you’ll die.

-You’ll die first.

And then, Ulthane crossed the monster’s heart with his sword.

Ulthane cleaned his bloodstained sword with a cloth. And he started his way to the temple. He knew that it would be the final battle, it was very dangerous surely he would die, but he had to try if he wanted to restore peace in the forest.  While he was going to the temple he had to avoid many dangers, the constant earthquakes, the wild animals… but after two days walking

without stopping, he arrived to the temple.

It was a very dark place, he felt like 10000 eyes were watching him while he was entering more and more into the temple's darkness. Finally he saw him, the host of the darkness, if he killed him the darkness would have to find another host and that would take some years to the darkness.

-Hello Ulthane, you are here to try to kill us? -said the host and the darkness at the same time as they were one.

-I’m not trying anything I will kill you, at least one of you.

The host or was it the darkness? attacked Ulthane very fast, the hero couldn’t block the attack and he got hurted on the shoulder. But that, wouldn’t stop him, he attacked to the host but this avoided his attack easily. Ulthane tripped over and the anfitrion crossed him with a dark sword on the chest. The host smiled. Then the darkness tried to take out his sword but Ulthane held the sword and approached to the darkness, while the sword was entering more and more on his chest. The darkness was surprised, how could he tolerate so much pain?

Then Ulthane raise his sword and cutted the host’s head.  The darkness shouted it was getting weaker and weaker.

Both Ulthane and the host fell to the floor, the host was dead but Ulthane was still alive, he was very weak but he was alive. He was so weak that the darkness could posses him, and the darkness did. The darkness entered inside Ulthane and healed his wounds. Then Ulthane disappeared, now he was the darkness’ host.

Social websites

Nowadays everybody uses social websites, they've become part of our lives, they help you being informed constantly about different things, and they are a very good form of communication full of advantages. One of them is that you can speak with your friends wherever they are, you can share photos and videos with people, you can read different news with Twitter; and all this for free or almost for free, you have to pay for the Internet. Many people would say that you also can meet new people, but in my opinion this isn't always an advantage. In my opinion this is good but, we have to be responsible when we write or share something on the Internet, because if we don't, later we could regret.


Teenagers are usually the ones that have more problems do to the social websites. The social websites have carried different problems, one of them is the "cyberbulling", teenagers can evade "cyberbulling" if they don't upload risky photos, for example a photo where they are doing something ridiculous, people could tease them. Apart from that, teenagers have to chose who are their friends on these social websites using intelligence, you can't choose someone that could hurt you. But, "cyberbulling" isn't the only danger of social websites, there are also molesters of different ages that sometimes are paedophiles. To evade this type of people teenagers have to accept only people they know as friends, and if they do, they can't meet these people personally, sometimes these people know where you live, so you have to avoid writing where you live and your telephone number on social websites. Also in some webs like Twitter you have to deactivate the location sharing, if you don't, people can know were you are at every time. And finally it is important to remember that when you are searching for a job, many companies will look at the accounts you have on the Internet, so have caution of what you say and you do on the Internet. In some pages you can share photos with only specific people this would save you from many troubles.


Sometimes people don't know how to distinguish between real friends and friends from social websites, the truth is that the differences between these two types of friends is very huge. Real friends are people you really know, people that would always help you ; but friends from social websites are people that you don't know very well, and sometimes people you haven't met personally, they are people that you can't really trust.


As a conclusion we can say that social websites are a great advantage if you know how to use it properly and being responsible, because if we don't we could have huge troubles. And teenagers need to have special caution with this.

MADRID 2020

This year it has been decided in what city  the 2020 Olympic games would be celebrated. The candidates were, Madrid, Tokyo and Istanbul. Spanish people hoped that Madrid would be chosen but it was eliminated in the first voting. A lot of people were disappointed when they heard about it, but in my opinion the fact that Madrid wasn't elected is not so terrible.

If we think abut it, Madrid 2020 would be a very positive thing that would create employment, but the cost of organising the Olympic games is extremely high. We can't forget that the 2004 Olympic games were celebrated in Athens (Greece), and now, 9 years later Greece is in economic crisis. At that time Greece wasn't having economic problems, but at this moment Spain is getting worse, I think that if Madrid had been elected, Spain wouldn't recover from so many expenses.

An important question is, did Spanish people really want Madrid 2020? The government said that the 91% of the Spanish people were happy to celebrate the Olympic games in Madrid, but many surveys indicate that the percentage of agreement didn't  reach the 50% of the population.

A shameful fact is that the Spanish government spent 37,8 million euros in the candidature of Madrid, but at the same time they were trimming in health service.

But the most disgraceful thing of Madrid 2020 was the ridiculous speech of Ana Botella. She showed a "magnificent" level at English, that in words of her English teacher " was excellent, charming and easy to understand". In my opinion her speech was easy to understand if you didn't know English. Her tutor said that they practised the discourse "25-30 hours"  (I don't think they took advantage of those hours). But, we all know that the best thing of that speech was the marvellous "relaxing cup of café con leche on Plaza Mayor", that makes everybody laugh, the interesting thing about this phrase is that it was prepared.
The tutor of Ms.Botella said that the phrase was his,  "yes, it was my idea, as a foreign, for me, is an iconic image of Madrid, my function is to help the candidates to understand that the things they think that can be touristy, are in fact, flashy for the foreigners." The name of this man is Terrence Burns, that had worked for 4 winner cities earlier. The speech was a disaster, but Terrence Burns earned money, we don't know how much, but we can suppose he earned much money.

As a conclusion we can say that the Spanish government spent a lot of money in this candidature and on paying to a man that ridiculed the mayor of Madrid. However, when money is needed for education, the government says that there is not any money. And yes, they do more reductions. Before saying goodbye I will let you the video of the speech of Ms. Botella.
